The Headteacher and governing body of this highly successful school are seeking to appoint a skilled, reliable and self-motivated person to take on this extremely important role of Caretaker in the school.
The person appointed will have total commitment towards maintaining a positive, clean and safe environment for young people, staff and visitors.
Duties will include:
- Opening and closing the school each day and carrying out security checks
- Carrying out and recording statutory checks and maintain health and safety checks
- Maintenance of property and grounds to a high standard including liaising with contractors
- Monitoring site stock and supplies
- Carrying out maintenance and repairs as required
- Acting as a key-holder
- Completing other tasks as set out in the job description
The successful candidate will be keen to maintain our school environment to a high standard to support children’s learning. They should be able to work effectively as part of the team, look after the safety and cleanliness of the site and also have the ability to work on their own initiative in recognising jobs that require attention, prioritising their own workload, undertaking some heavy lifting, moving and handling and be willing to undertake training and development.
The successful candidate will have:
- Good DIY skills
- Caretaking or site supervisor experience in a school or similar environment
- Knowledge of security systems
- Experience using commercial cleaning equipment
- The ability to work in accordance with the school’s Health & Safety Policies and the code of safe working
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety procedures and regulations e.g. COSHH, SAMO, Legionella
- Knowledge of moving and handling procedures
- Experience using commercial site maintenance equipment
- The ability to work on own initiative
- The ability to undertake general building maintenance and repairs without guidance
- The ability to demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving
- The ability to communicate well with adults and students
- The ability to respond calmly to emergencies.

Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, formerly The Trinity Catholic Multi Academy Trust was set up on 1 February 2012. Cardinal Hume Catholic School, Gateshead was the first school in the trust.
Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, is currently a family of 5 secondary schools and 21 primary schools from across Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham and Northumberland, in the west of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. The Trust is expanding rapidly and will reach a total of 48 schools by Summer 2022.
