Are you seeking a new teaching role?
Gilbert Ward Academy, part of Prosper Learning Trust, is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a Primary Trained Teacher to join our team from September 2025.
We are seeking passionate and dedicated primary specialists who are committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. You will:
- Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have experience of teaching the primary curriculum
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the needs of pupils with SEMH and/or Autism Spectrum Conditions.
- Be an innovative and adaptable educator, able to engage and inspire students in their learning.
- Share our commitment to providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can thrive.
Some of the main responsibilities of the role will include:
- Establishing a purposeful and safe learning environment and supporting learners’ behaviour constructively
- Contributing to the monitoring and development of the required subject/s area to ensure suitable opportunities
- Planning effectively short, medium and long-term
- Assess, record and report on the development and progress of learners
As a purpose-built, state-of-the-art special free school that opened its doors in September 2023, we are dedicated to providing exceptional education for pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Located on Princess Louise Road in Blyth, Northumberland, our academy serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity for our pupils and their families. Since our official opening in September 2023, we have remained dedicated to delivering a personalised, high-quality education that extends beyond academic success. We focus on the holistic development of each child, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and resilience necessary to thrive in all aspects of life.
Our academy currently serves 56 pupils and is set to expand to a capacity of 80 pupils. These roles offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the academy’s growth, delivering high-quality teaching and learning that inspires and supports our pupils to reach their full potential.
About the Role:
You will teach secondary age pupils who are working at primary stage, on our Semi-Formal Pathway. We offer 3 pathways in school:
- Our formal pathway captures the greatest percentage of our cohort, consisting of discrete teaching in subject specific lessons.
- Our alternative pathway is targeted towards our more hard-to-reach pupils who require a more diverse offer. This pathway approach consists of work-based placements as motivators and skill builders catered to pupil aspirations, combined with reduced in-school placements addressing core academic needs.
- Our semi-formal pathway is for our pupils who display higher anxiety needs and significant social and emotional needs. This pathway has a relationship approach using consistent core staffing to allow for strong and robust pupil staff relationships. This uses a highly structured provision, with discrete learning opportunities alongside a focus of social and emotional learning.
We Can Offer:
- A supportive and experienced team of staff who share expertise across the trust
- Exceptional facilities designed to meet the needs of SEMH learners
- Comprehensive professional development opportunities tailored to subject teaching and career progression
- The chance to make a significant impact on a growing academy and its pupils
We are seeking the right person for the role.
The successful candidate will be welcomed into the Trust. If this sounds like the role for you, please don’t hesitate to apply.
Visits to the school are encouraged to share our vision and discuss the roles. To arrange a visit or request a confidential conversation, please email admin@gilbertwardacademy.co.uk

Prosper Learning Trust
Prosper Learning Trust was established in January 2018 with Newcastle Bridges School and Mary Astell Academy. Thomas Bewick School joined the Trust in April 2019, Harry Watts Academy in September 2020 and Gilbert Ward Academy opened in September 2023. We are striving to build further collaboration across the academies and grow as a multi-academy trust, whilst continuing to strengthen our relationships with schools outside the MAT for the benefit of our pupils.
Prosper Learning Trust was formed to help vulnerable young people succeed. Many children and young people face challenges in their lives that many adults will happily never experience, Prosper Learning Trust’s range of academies are here to support them in doing so.
Wherever possible we will help these young people to thrive in a mainstream educational setting. Where that cannot happen, we will provide a safe space for them in one of our Alternative Provision schools until they are ready to return or move on.
Our Specialist Academies offer autistic children and young people the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment, where differences are celebrated, and every pupil is valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential.
Through our academies, we provide high quality teaching, curriculum and care in a range of environments. We provide education from 0 to 18 years old, in normal school settings, in hospitals, and via outreach work and support transition between them at every stage.
