Polam Hall School wishes to appoint a forward-thinking and enthusiastic full time Head of the Humanities Faculty to commence in either November 2023 or January 2024.
The role:
We seek an experienced practitioner who is passionate about their subject and about learning, to take on the exciting role of Head of the Humanities Faculty in the secondary phase of our all-through school. The successful candidate will have high expectations of students and staff and be able to collaboratively lead a team of subject specialists. You will have the knowledge and energy to inspire students through high quality curricula, teaching and learning. The role would suit an existing Head of Humanities or a subject lead who is ready to broaden their experience. We would be very happy to discuss the role and show you our school so please do get in touch if you are considering applying.
The Head of Humanities leads the teaching of History, Geography, Religious Studies, Business Studies, PSHE and Latin in our Senior School. Applications are welcomed from excellent classroom practitioners who have a keen interest in developing evidence-informed pedagogical and curricular practice. Our Humanities faculty are a forward looking and positive team who aim to provide the best education for all of our students. Outcomes for students are good in all Humanities subjects, as is take-up in KS4, and so we are looking for someone who can build upon this success. As we are an all-through school the role also provides the opportunity to work closely with our Junior School subject leads to deliver excellent progression across the phases.
The successful candidate will teach at least one of the Humanities subjects at GCSE. It would be helpful if you brought the capacity to deliver more than one subject at KS3.
All our Heads of Faculty hold a whole Senior School responsibility – the Head of Humanities leads on ITE and ECT provision in the secondary phase. We have existing partnerships with ITE providers and the Tees Valley teaching School Hub, but would be keen to develop these. We are also looking for a colleague who can make a contribution to the wider life of the school, through extra-curricular clubs, trips and visits. We can offer the successful candidate support in accessing and completing NPQs or other leadership qualifications.
Our School:
Polam Hall School is a 4 – 16 all-through academy and is part of Woodard Academies Trust. We have 790 pupils on roll, with one and a half forms of entry in our Primary Phase and four forms in our Secondary Phase. Polam Hall is a school with a unique and long history which today is proud to be a fully comprehensive school serving the young people of Darlington. Our mission is to educate the whole child, developing leadership, compassion, character and academic ambition, through the combination of our Academic and Concordia Crescimus curricula. We have high expectations and aspirations for every member of our school community.
Polam Hall is a community where staff and students work together for common goals. We make every effort to develop our staff team, offering professional development opportunities and the chance to be part of a wider Trust, yet retaining the friendly atmosphere of a small school. We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic people to join our team, who have children at the heart of their practice and who will help us to drive forward our aim: to deliver an outstanding education to every single one of our pupils.
Visits to the school are welcome. If you would like to visit or to discuss the post further please contact Kate Reid, Principal: reid.k@phs.woodard.co.uk
Please note you should use the supporting statement section of the application form to clearly evidence your ability to meet the requirements outlined in the person specification.
